US-Israel’s Breaking Point 🇺🇸🔥

Tensions between the United States and Israel are at an all-time high.

On Monday, Washington opted not to use its veto power at the UN Security Council, enabling the passage of a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during the holy month of Ramadan.

However, this decision sparked a heated reaction from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, setting off a chain of dramatic events.

🛑 A Break from Tradition: US Abstains

The abstention from vetoing the ceasefire resolution signifies a notable departure from the typical stance of the United States.

It's the first instance since October 7th that a resolution has been permitted to pass without a veto from Washington, indicating a change in diplomatic approach.

🥶 Netanyahu's Cold Shoulder

Prime Minister Netanyahu wasted no time in expressing his displeasure, promptly canceling a planned visit of a delegation to the United States, sending a clear message of his disapproval.

🔍 A Principle Under Scrutiny

Netanyahu accused the US of backtracking on its "principled position" by abstaining from vetoing the UN resolution.

Historically, the US has supported Israel in the Security Council, vetoing similar ceasefire resolutions and offering unwavering backing since 1945

Since then, the US has vetoed 89 Security Council resolutions in total, with more than half of those being aimed at Israel.
