What's Happening in Sudan? 🇸🇩 🌍
In the shadows of global headlines, there is a genocide happening in Sudan, with over 5 million displaced and 42% of the population facing hunger since April 2023. The struggle for freedom clashes with a power play orchestrated by military generals.
Let's delve into the conflict that's tearing this nation apart:
👥 The Struggle for Freedom
The people of Sudan have always craved freedom. However, there are military generals who are driven by a thirst for power, backed by the international community.
🔓 2019: Overthrowing Dictatorship
In 2019, the Sudanese people overthrew the decades-long dictator Omar Al Bashir.
What followed was a transitional council, a mix of civilian and military leadership, promising a shift towards a civilian-led government.
🔄 Transition Stumbles in 2021
Fast forward to October 2021, 2 years into the transition, a military coup disrupted the promised handover to civilians.
The international community chose to side with military generals Hemedti and Burhan, ignoring warnings from civilians about their unreliability and genocidal tendencies.
🤝 Hemedti and Burhan: A Dangerous Alliance
Hemedti and Burhan, once allies against the Sudanese people, turned on each other when power was within reach. The clash on April 15th, 2023, left the Sudanese people caught in the crossfire.
💔 Outcome: Genocide Unfolds
The aftermath is devastating—tens of thousands dead, over 5 million displaced. What was supposed to be a transition toward democracy turned into a nightmare, constituting a clear genocide against the Sudanese people.
